What is the full form of SIP?
SIP stands for Systematic Investment Plan. It is a disciplined method of investing a fixed amount of money in mutual funds at regular intervals - weekly, monthly, or quarterly - instead of investing a lump sum all at once.
How a SIP works
When you start a SIP, you authorise your bank to automatically debit a fixed amount from your account and invest it in a chosen mutual fund scheme on a set date each month. You receive mutual fund units at the prevailing Net Asset Value (NAV) on that date. Because you invest regularly regardless of market conditions, you buy more units when prices are low and fewer units when prices are high - a strategy called rupee-cost averaging.
