How the PPF rate is set

The PPF interest rate is set by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Since FY 2016-17, rates are reviewed and declared quarterly (though in practice, the PPF rate has been unchanged since April 2020). The rate is linked to government security (G-Sec) yields - specifically, PPF is meant to offer a spread of 0.25% above the average yield of comparable government bonds.
